Baltimore City States Attorney Marilyn Mosby

Marilyn Mosby, Former Baltimore Top Prosecutor, Sentenced to Time Served

Former States Attorney Convicted on Federal Charges

Jury Found Mosby Guilty of Lying About Hardships

A federal judge has sentenced Marilyn Mosby, the former top prosecutor for Baltimore, to time served. Mosby was convicted in two separate trials on charges of lying about hardships to obtain a mortgage and perjury for failing to disclose outside income on her loan application.

Mosby, who served as Baltimore's state attorney from 2015 to 2022, was found guilty by a jury in March of lying about financial hardships to obtain a mortgage. In September, she was convicted of perjury for failing to disclose outside income on her loan application.

The charges against Mosby stem from a 2014 incident in which she purchased a vacation home in Florida. Mosby claimed on her mortgage application that she had been experiencing financial hardships, which allowed her to obtain a lower interest rate. However, prosecutors presented evidence that Mosby had not actually been experiencing any financial difficulties.

Mosby's defense attorney argued that she had made an honest mistake on her mortgage application and that she had not intended to deceive anyone. However, the jury did not find her arguments persuasive.

Mosby's sentencing to time served is a significant victory for prosecutors. It sends a message that public officials will be held accountable for their actions, even if they have not been convicted of a crime.
